NATURE OF WORK
The intern program is designed for full-time undergraduate engineering students interested in a career in public service.
You will participate in training in a structured 6 month engineering internship program in the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Most internships will be served between the sophomore and junior years and between the junior and senior years. Assignments provide practical work experiences which apply generally accepted engineering principles. You will be given detailed instructions preceding assignments, and your work will be reviewed in progress. Periodic conferences with senior level engineers are an integral part of the training experience. The intent of this program is to prepare employees and provide career opportunities for full-time engineering employment within the Department of Transportation.
Participating schools may grant credit for the internship. The exact number of credits will be determined by your school. Check with your college internship coordinator for more specific information.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.
Necessary Special Requirement
Written authorization by the college or university for the student to participate in the Commonwealth’s Engineering Intern Program is required.
Minimum Requirements
Enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student and successful completion (or be in your last semester) of the sophomore year of an accredited undergraduate degree program in engineering. Required engineering curricula for the civil engineering program are as follows: Civil, Civil Structural, Hydraulic, Architectural and Civil Engineering Technology.

TESTING
At the time of application, you must submit the completed participation form (Application Supplement 2011-058-1) to participate in the Commonwealth’s Engineering Intern Program.
Your application and participation form will be reviewed to determine whether you meet the Minimum Requirements. If you meet these requirements you will receive a score.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in disqualification.
If you were previously determined to be ineligible and now meet the job requirements, you may reapply during the term of this announcement by submitting a new application and application supplement.
TEST RESULTS
Employment lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.

You should apply in the second semester of, or after successful completion of, your sophomore year in an accredited undergraduate degree program in engineering.
