NATURE OF WORK
All Electricians will install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, machinery, devices, fixtures, and associated equipment. You will lay out and install conduit for power and lighting; correct power failures; and repair and maintain motors, generators and various appliances. You will be expected to work at the full journey level, which may include interpreting blueprints/instructions for small projects and ensuring that these projects are completed according to specifications.
Medium Voltage Electricians will operate and maintain electrical power distribution systems and associated equipment with a voltage between 480 and 23,000 volts.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

For some jobs, offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Conditions of Employment
Electrician – Certain positions require licensure as a journey-level electrician or master electrician.
Medium Voltage Electrician – Certain positions require possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Post Employment Requirement
Medium Voltage Electrician – Certain positions in this class are required to obtain a valid Pennsylvania commercial driver’s license within one year from date of hire.
Minimum Requirements
Electrician
Four years of experience in the electrical trade, or completion of an approved apprenticeship; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Medium Voltage Electrician
Five years of journey-level experience in the electrical trade; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Clarification of Requirements
You may substitute related education for the required experience. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

Electricians and Medium Voltage Electricians are employed by 8 state agencies. Positions are located throughout the state with very few positions located in Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.
Electricians are employed by the Pennsylvania Departments of Agriculture, General Services, Military and Veterans Affairs, Public Welfare, and Transportation; and the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Medium Voltage Electricians are employed by the Pennsylvania Departments of Labor and Industry, Military and Veterans Affairs, Public Welfare, and Transportation; and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
The majority of filled jobs are with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare at state institutions such as state hospitals and centers.
Occasionally, a few additional seasonal hires are made for short periods.
Lists created by these tests will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your “Notice of Examination Results”. A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
