Youth Development Aide Trainee (41785): Upon successful completion of the six-month training period, you will be promoted to the Youth Development Aide (41790) with an increase in salary.

NATURE OF WORK
Youth Development Aide Trainee (41785) - You will attend formal classroom training sessions and receive on-the-job training assignments to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the care, custody and training of court adjudicated youth requiring treatment and specialized program services in a Youth Development Center (YDC) or a Youth Forestry Camp (YFC).
Youth Development Aide (41790) - You will actively engage court adjudicated youth on a day-to-day basis to address personal problems and scheduled activities and to provide positive reinforcement and insight into responsible behavior and attitudes. Work includes observing scheduled activities; assisting professional staff in implementing the youths’ treatment plans; reporting the youths’ progress in attaining program goals; and providing physical care, custody, and supervision of the youths’ daily activities including waking, personal hygiene, eating, recreating, work assignments, skill-building, and participating in treatment groups and other programmed activities.
Youth Development Aide Supervisor (41791) – You will also assign, direct and supervise the work of a group of subordinate aides.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

If you are a final candidate for a position covered by the Child Protective Services Law, you will have to provide reports on your background, at your own expense, from such sources as the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
Necessary Special Requirements
Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
Minimum Requirements
41785 - You must pass the test.
41790 - Successful completion of the Youth Development Aide Trainee program; OR 1 year of experience in the care, custody, activities or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a behavioral, educational or community-based capacity; OR completion of 30 college credits, which included 12 credits in behavioral sciences or criminal justice.
41791 - One year of experience as a Youth Development Aide; OR 2 years of experience in the care, custody, activities or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a behavioral, educational or community-based capacity; OR 1 year of experience in the care, custody, activities or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a behavioral, educational or community-based capacity, and completion of 30 college credits, which included 12 credits in behavioral sciences or criminal justice.

These positions exist exclusively in facilities for adjudicated delinquent youth operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
Positions are located in the following counties: Carbon (Youth Forestry Camp #2), Franklin (South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit), Huntingdon (Youth Forestry Camp #3), Lawrence (New Castle Youth Development Center), Montour (North Central Secure Treatment Unit), and Perry (Loysville Youth Development Center).
Youth Development Aide Trainees (41785) will be hired as operationally necessary.
For job titles Youth Development Aide (41790) and Youth Development Aide Supervisor (41791), lists created by these tests will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.
Employment preference may be given to residents of the counties where the jobs are located.
Promotion preference may be given to employees who work in the counties where job openings occur.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
