NATURE OF WORK

 

You will provide statewide advisory and consultative services in the planning, development, improvement, and evaluation of educational programs in school districts, intermediate units, and teacher preparation programs.  You will conduct workshops, training sessions, and conferences to disseminate information; conduct on-site visits to schools to assist with curriculum development; interpret and disseminate information related to curriculum regulations, policies, and guidelines of the Pennsylvania Department of Education; and assist in the diagnosis and remediation of educational problems at the local level.  At the 2 level you will be responsible for the statewide direction and leadership of the educational curriculum area.  You will develop goals and objectives for education in the Commonwealth consistent with regulations and departmental priorities and assist school personnel in implementing them; direct the preparation of curriculum publications; serve on interagency committees and as liaison to State Advisory Committees; and research, evaluate, and disseminate model programs.

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Minimum Requirements

Bilingual Education Advisor 1 (20670) – Four years of professional experience in the field of bilingual and ESL education, including at least one year of experience in the development and implementation of bilingual and/or ESL education curricula or programs; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

All Other Education Advisors 1 (20530, 20410, 20610, 20330, 20600, 20630, 20350, 20650, 20550, and 21330) - Four years of professional education experience in the specialty field (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.), including two years of experience in public schools and one year of experience in the development and implementation of education curricula or programs related to the specialty field (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.); OR an equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years of experience in public schools and one year of experience in the development and implementation of education curricula or programs related to the specialty field (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.).

 

Bilingual Education Advisor 2 (20280) – One year as a Bilingual Education Advisor 1; OR five years of professional experience in the field of bilingual and ESL education, including at least two years of experience in the development and implementation of bilingual and/or ESL education curricula or programs; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

All Other Education Advisors 2 (20570, 20270, 20615, 20340, 20620, 20640, 20360, 20660, 20560, and 21331) - One year as an Education Advisor 1 in the specialty field (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.); OR five years of professional education experience in the specialty field (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.), including three years of experience in public schools and two years of experience in the development and implementation of education curricula or programs in the specialty field (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.); OR an equivalent combination of experience and training which includes three years of experience in public schools and two years of experience in the development and implementation of education curricula or programs in the specialty field (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.).

 

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related graduate education for the professional education experience.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted. 

 

Bilingual Education Advisors 1 and 2 (20670 and 20280) – No substitutions are permitted for the experience developing and implementing bilingual and/or ESL education curricula or programs.

 

All Other Education Advisors 1 and 2 (20530, 20410, 20610, 20330, 20600, 20630, 20350, 20650, 20550, 21330, 20570, 20270, 20615, 20340, 20620, 20640, 20360, 20660, 20560, and 21331) - No substitutions are permitted for the public school experience or for the experience developing and implementing education curricula or programs in the specialty field.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
