NATURE OF WORK

 

You will plan, develop and direct programs to socially reorient selected criminal offenders to the community.  You will supervise professional and support staff in programs designed to assist residents to readjust to pressures, potential problems and rules of conduct during transition from an institutional environment to a community setting.  Your work will include promoting acceptance of the offenders by the community.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

If you are not currently an employee of the Department Of Corrections, you must pass a background investigation.  After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must undergo a medical examination.  After being hired, you must attend and complete a 3 week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, located in Lancaster County.

 

Minimum Requirements

Two years of experience as a Corrections Counselor 2; OR 4 years of experience as a Corrections Officer 3; OR 2 years of experience as a Corrections Officer 4 OR 1 year of experience as a Corrections Unit Manager; OR 4 years of professional counseling or casework experience involving criminal offenders in a correctional, probation, or parole environment, and a bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes four years of professional corrections security, counseling or casework experience involving criminal offenders in a correctional, probation, or parole environment.

 

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.
