NATURE OF WORK

 

This is professional community organization and technical assistance work intended to enhance the ability of the community to provide prevention and treatment services for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and abuse.  You will speak before community groups and train and advise various local organizations such as Children of Substance Abusers (COSA), Parenting/Family Management Services, Peer Leader/Helper Programs, education services for youth groups, and Community Drop-In Centers.  You will also be involved in coalition building activities, networking, and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of service implementation.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.  If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.

 

For some jobs, offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist (Local Government); OR a bachelor's degree in health education, education, the social or behavioral sciences and two years of progressively responsible experience in drug and alcohol prevention activities; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

 

Graduate education in health education; public health; communications; psychology; sociology; social or behavioral sciences, or related fields may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
