NATURE OF WORK

 

You will interview applicants for unemployment compensation claims to determine if they qualify for benefits.  A major portion of this work is devoted to the processing of initial and ongoing claims and related clerical work.  All work is performed in a call center environment utilizing telephone and personal computers.

 

IF YOU ARE HIRED FOR THIS JOB YOU WILL WORK ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS DURING PERIODS OF PEAK UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS.  EMPLOYMENT MAY INCLUDE WEEKEND AND EVENING HOURS AS WELL AS SOME HOLIDAYS.  HOLIDAY WORK INCLUDES PREMIUM PAY.  DEPENDING ON WORKLOAD, EMPLOYMENT HOURS MAY BE LESS THAN A FULL WORK DAY OR A FULL WORK WEEK.  YOU WILL RECEIVE BENEFITS BASED ON THE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED.  YOU WILL REMAIN ELIGIBLE FOR RECURRING EMPLOYMENT AS LONG AS YOUR JOB PERFORMANCE IS SATISFACTORY.  ON YOUR APPLICATION BE SURE TO MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE ONLY FOR THE COUNTIES IN WHICH YOU ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT INTERMITTENT EMPLOYMENT.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

 

Two years of experience in general office work, including one year involving interviewing the public; OR an associate’s degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of general office work involving interviewing the public.

There is continuing need for bilingual (English and Spanish) intake interviewers to provide information and assistance to Spanish speaking clients. If you possess bilingual language skills, you are encouraged to apply.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office. 

 

You will have a maximum of 2 1/2 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission Offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.

 

This list will replace any previous list. 

 

This test is different from previous tests for this job title.  If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on this test.
