NATURE OF WORK

 

This is professional job development, placement, and training work in Pennsylvania CareerLink Centers.

 

As a CareerLink Specialist, you will assist employers with their recruitment and hiring needs by analyzing and providing local labor market information; reviewing online job orders; coordinating job fairs and other recruiting events; and providing advice on employment laws and regulations, tax information, veteransí preference, and other employment issues. You will help job-seekers by assessing their work histories, interests, and education; providing guidance, direction, and training; and conducting job search workshops that provide information on topics such as resume writing, interviewing techniques, and computer skills.

 

As a CareerLink Program Supervisor, you will plan, assign, and review work of CareerLink Center staff and provide training on new or revised policies and procedures.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test will count only if you meet all job requirements.

Minimum Requirements

 

CareerLink Specialist - Four years of public contact work which involved interviewing the public to obtain, provide, and evaluate information concerning employment or employability; OR a bachelorís degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

CareerLink Program Supervisor - Five years of public contact work which involved interviewing the public to obtain, provide, and evaluate information concerning employment or employability; OR 1 year of public contact work which involved interviewing the public to obtain, provide, and evaluate information concerning employment or employability, and a bachelorís degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that included 1 year of public contact work which involved interviewing the public to obtain, provide, and evaluate information concerning employment or employability.

All positions exist in the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry and are located throughout the state in Pennsylvania CareerLink Centers.  There are currently 173 filled CareerLink Specialist positions and 43 filled CareerLink Program Supervisor positions statewide.  In the next 12 months, the agency anticipates hiring approximately 15 CareerLink Specialists and 9 CareerLink Program Supervisors throughout the state.

 

Additional opportunities may occur due to normal turnover from retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

 

In some areas, there may be a need for bilingual (English and Spanish) CareerLink Specialists and CareerLink Program Supervisors to provide information and assistance to Spanish-speaking clients.  Individuals possessing this bilingual skill are encouraged to apply.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office. 

 

You will have a maximum of 2 1/2 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
