NATURE OF WORK

 

You will perform managerial duties in the air, water, waste, or mineral resources programs of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).  If assigned to a position at the DEP central office in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, you will be responsible for directing the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of a major statewide program or functional area.  If assigned to a position at a field operations regional office, you will be responsible for directing the inspection, enforcement and permit review functions for an entire program area.  If assigned to an Assistant Regional Director position, you will be responsible for directing regional pollution prevention and compliance assistance, emergency response, permit review, program coordination and planning functions.  If assigned to a position at a District Mining Office, you will be responsible for directing all activities in the regulation of mining operations.  Regardless of the location, you will coordinate activities within assigned units and among other organizational units.  Additionally, you will determine goals, objectives and priorities as well as determine and prepare budgetary requests.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Conditions of Employment

Certain positions will require possession of a valid Professional Engineer license or a valid Professional Geologist license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

 

Certain positions require possession of a valid driverís license.

 

Minimum Requirements

Two years as an Environmental Group Manager; OR seven years of professional environmental protection experience that includes two years of technical supervisory experience and a bachelorís degree in the biological, physical or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in environmental protection that includes two years of technical supervisory experience.
