NATURE OF WORK

 

Bridge Inspection Crane Technician

You will deploy and operate a bridge inspection crane with hydraulically operated, multi-boom, aerial platform bucket and you will assist with crane deployment and safety setup for the maintenance and protection of traffic.  In addition, you will assist bridge inspectors in identifying deficiencies on bridge structures and in producing reports.

 

Bridge Inspection Crane Technician Supervisor

You will supervise the deployment and operation of a special large vehicle-mounted crane apparatus used in the Commonwealth’s statewide Bridge Safety Inspection Program.  You will be the team leader for bridge inspection crews, and will be totally responsible for worksite safety, including the establishment of traffic control safety setup.  As a certified bridge inspector, you will assist bridge inspectors in identifying deficiencies on bridge structures, and in producing reports.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must pass drug-screening tests.

 

Necessary Special Requirement for Both Job Titles

You must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

 

Post Employment Requirements for Both Job Titles

You must obtain a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of trucks and crane equipment within the probationary period.

 

You also must obtain a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a bridge inspector during your probationary period.  This certification must be maintained by attending and successfully passing the Bridge Inspection Refresher course every two years following original certification.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Bridge Inspection Crane Technician – Two years of experience in the operation of a multi-boom aerial platform bucket apparatus or truck-mounted crane; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Bridge Inspection Crane Technician Supervisor – Two years of experience as a Bridge Inspection Crane Technician; OR 4 years of experience in the operation of a multi-boom aerial platform bucket apparatus or truck-mounted crane; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

TESTING

 

Your application will be evaluated to determine whether you possess the Necessary Special Requirement and the Minimum Requirements.  If you meet these requirements, you will receive a score.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  You must list your valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in the “Licenses and Certificates” section of your Application for Employment/Promotion.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in disqualification.

 

If you were previously determined to be ineligible, but now meet the requirements, you may reapply at any time.  A new application is required for a retest.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
