NATURE OF WORK

 

You will consult with end users and Information Technology (IT) staff to develop and implement technological solutions to business problems.  This will involve collecting, analyzing, and documenting business rules and processes, recommending system change requests, and conducting requirements-gathering sessions.  You will prepare queries and reports, develop user acceptance test scenarios, and troubleshoot system problems. Additionally, you will analyze new or proposed legislation, rules, and regulations to determine the necessary information technology or business process changes.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

Minimum Requirements

 

Business Analyst 3 – One year as a Business Analyst 2; OR 2 years of business process analysis experience and a bachelor’s degree; OR 6 years of business process analysis experience; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Business Analyst 4 – One year as a Business Analyst 3; OR 3 years of business process analysis experience and a bachelor’s degree; OR 7 years of business process analysis experience; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Most Business Analyst 3 positions are located in Dauphin County.  Other filled positions are located in Chester, Cumberland, and Lackawanna Counties. 

 

All Business Analyst 4 positions are located in Dauphin County.

 

The Pennsylvania Departments of General Services and Insurance employ Business Analysts 3.  The Pennsylvania Office of Administration, Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, and Pennsylvania Departments of Health, Labor and Industry, Public Welfare, and Transportation employ both Business Analysts 3 and 4.

 

Lists created by these tests will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

 

You will have a maximum of 3 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application is required for a retest.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
