NATURE OF WORK

 

Blindness and Visual Services District Managers plan, organize, and direct a Department of Labor and Industry District Office to provide rehabilitative and preventative services to blind or visually-impaired clients throughout the state.  They coordinate program services with available community resources and maintain community agency contacts.

 

Vocational Rehabilitation Managers develop plans to ensure vocational rehabilitation services are provided to persons with disabilities, maintain working relationships with medical and social resources, and develop expanded opportunities for vocational training and placement.  Vocational Rehabilitation Managers 1 manage Vocational Rehabilitation district offices or assist in the management of the Pittsburgh or Philadelphia district offices.  Vocational Rehabilitation Managers 2 plan, organize, and direct the work of a district rehabilitation office and supervise subordinate Vocational Rehabilitation Managers 1.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

 

You must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for these job titles.

 

Minimum Requirements

Blindness and Visual Services District Manager and Vocational Rehabilitation Manager 1

Four years of professional social or human services experience that includes 2 years of professional experience working in programs that serve persons with disabilities and that includes or is supplemented by 1 year of professional supervisory or consultative social or human services experience, and a bachelorís degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 2 years of professional experience working in programs that serve persons with disabilities and that includes or is supplemented by 1 year of professional supervisory or consultative social or human services experience.

 

Vocational Rehabilitation Manager 2

Two years as a Vocational Rehabilitation Manger 1 or Blindness and Visual Services District Manager; OR 6 years of professional social or human services experience that includes four years of professional experience working in programs that serve persons with disabilities and that includes or is supplemented by two years of professional supervisory social or human services experience, and a bachelorís degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes four years of professional experience working in programs that serve persons with disabilities and that includes or is supplemented by two years of professional supervisory social or human services experience.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.

 

These lists will replace any previous lists.

 

This test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for these job titles.  If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on the test.
