NATURE OF WORK

 

You will conduct pre-sentencing and pre-parole investigations and prepare case summaries on the criminal and behavioral backgrounds of persons convicted of sexually violent offenses for the State Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.  You will conduct face-to-face interviews with defendants, crime victims, police officers, county court officers, district attorneys, county crisis intervention and social service officials, and sexual offendersí families and friends, in order to prepare comprehensive case summaries for consideration by the Board.

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

You must pass a background investigation.

 

Conditions of Employment

You will be working with individuals who have committed violent sexual crimes.  You will be subjected to detailed accounts of defendantsí sexual encounters and fantasies.  Individuals who have experienced past trauma may not be well suited for employment in this position.  By submitting an application, you are indicating your willingness to 1) work directly with individuals who have committed violent sexual crimes, 2) conduct investigations which may require face-to-face interviews with convicted sexual felons who may also suffer from a serious mental or emotional abnormality and may be prone to violent aggressive behavior, and 3) work overnight, overtime and weekends.  Also, by submitting an application, you are acknowledging that you understand that 1) hazardous duty may be encountered during assignments, and 2) you will not be carrying weapons.

 

Necessary Special Requirement

You must have a valid driverís license.

 

Minimum Requirements

Two years of professional experience in victimsí assistance, social welfare case work, law enforcement, or probation/parole which included six months of investigation of sexually violent crimes, sex crime counseling work or sex offender parole supervision and a bachelorís degree.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
