NATURE OF WORK

 

You will conduct investigations and evaluate evidence involving sensitive cases that have broad administrative or public policy implications in state government.  You will analyze records; gather and verify information; interview, observe and interrogate witnesses; and testify in legal proceedings.  Work also involves preparing comprehensive investigation reports to document findings of alleged violations of laws and regulations.

 

Employees in both job levels do the same type of investigative work; however, a Special Investigator 2 works on more complex issues and operates with a greater degree of independence than a Special Investigator 1.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

 

For some jobs, offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Conditions of Employment

Some positions may require working evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

 

Minimum Requirements

Special Investigator 1 Ė Two years of experience in criminal investigation work and a bachelorís degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Special Investigator 2 Ė Four years of experience in progressively responsible criminal investigation work, and a bachelorís degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Investigator 1 positions are located in the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board.  Positions are located in Allegheny County, Dauphin County, Franklin County, Lackawanna County, and Philadelphia County.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office. 

 

You will have a maximum of 2 1/2 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

TEST RESULTS
