NATURE OF WORK
You will perform public safety work and promote recreation in state parks and forests. Work includes answering questions concerning facilities, environmental features and history; explaining rules and regulations; checking grounds, buildings and waterways for vandalism, safety hazards, and cleanliness; and administering first aid or CPR. You will also prepare and deliver presentations to school, civil groups and associations; enforce the Commonwealth’s Crimes Code and Vehicle Code; investigate complaints, accidents, and suspected crimes; coordinate activities with local and State Police, Game Commission and the Fish and Boat Commission; issue citations, file complaints and present cases before District Justices.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements. If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.
You must be willing to travel and stay overnight, as needed. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Conditions of Employment
You must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
You must possess a valid certification or its equivalent in first aid and adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as approved by the PA Department of Health for professional rescuers or healthcare professionals. You must submit the first aid and CPR certificates at the time of your interview. If you do not have current certificates but will receive new or renewed certificates prior to the start date of employment, you must present a statement to this effect from the training agency at the time of the interview and you must provide the required certificates on or before your first scheduled day of work.
Certain positions in this job require possession of a valid Class M operator’s license.
Necessary Special Requirement
You must possess a valid Class C driver’s license.
Minimum Requirements
Successful completion of the DCNR Ranger Trainee program; or completion of 15 credits in natural or environmental sciences, natural resource management, park management, outdoor recreation, forestry, environmental education, ecology, wildlife management, or related natural resource or recreation courses; and completion of a department-recognized police training course such as the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (Act 120), or completion of an equivalent law enforcement officer training or certification program that allows eligibility for commissioning as a police officer.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results." A new application is required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
This test is different from previous tests for this job title. If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on this test.
