NATURE OF WORK
Regional Traffic Management Center Operators monitor, evaluate, and disseminate information concerning emergency and non-emergency traffic conditions and incidents. They operate cameras to confirm and identify traffic events, verify incidents with appropriate authorities; dispatch information over two-way radios and telephone units; evaluate and recommend modified traffic routes or other actions; enter information into computer systems such as Road Condition Reporting System (RCRS). They operate Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, dispatch Freeway Service Patrols (FSPs), and coordinate traffic assistance with Department personnel and other incident and emergency agencies.
Regional Traffic Management Center Supervisors direct the operations of a Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC). They supervise and train RTMC Operators, recommend policies and procedures, control various information added to the Road Condition Reporting System (RCRS) and other systems, and manage data reporting and quality assurance activities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Minimum Requirements
Regional Traffic Management Center Operator - One year of experience evaluating and coordinating information related to traffic data, incidents or conditions.
Regional Traffic Management Center Supervisor - One year of experience as a Regional Traffic Management Center Operator OR two years of experience evaluating and coordinating information related to traffic data, incidents or conditions.

These positions exist only in Dauphin, Allegheny and Montgomery counties. Currently there are 13 filled operator positions and 7 filled supervisor positions.
Opportunities for employment may occur due to normal turnover from retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.
You will have a maximum of 2 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
