NATURE OF WORK

 

Epidemiologists plan and conduct epidemiologic investigations and research studies; maintain systems for disease reporting and surveillance; consult with regional and local health officials; interpret epidemiological data; and attend professional meetings throughout the United States.

 

Epidemiologist Supervisors supervise the design and conduct of epidemiologic investigations and research studies; manage the design and development of epidemiological database activities; coordinate statewide programs for preventative medicine, and public health education; and serve as an epidemiological consultant to county health departments, health organizations, the medical community and the public.

 

Epidemiologist Managers direct the design and conduct of epidemiological investigations and research studies; develop and implement public health program standards; develop epidemiological plans, policies and procedures; supervise assigned epidemiological program administration; and serve as an epidemiological consultant to various public and private officials in the community. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

 

You must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.

 

Minimum Requirements

Epidemiologist:  Possession of either a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in epidemiology, Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO), Dental Surgery/Medicine (DDS/DDM/DMD), or Veterinary Medicine (DVM); AND two years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system; OR

 

Possession of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in a biological science such as biology, genetics, nursing or virology; AND either a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or Master of Science (MS) degree in epidemiology; AND two years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system.

 

Epidemiologist Supervisor:  One year as an Epidemiologist (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania job title); OR

 

Possession of either a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in epidemiology, Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO), Dental Surgery/Medicine (DDS/DDM/DMD), or Veterinary Medicine (DVM); AND three years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system; OR

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
