NATURE OF WORK
This is professional field and office work in forest management. You will perform a variety of duties that involve developing, planning, implementing, coordinating, promoting via education, and evaluating programs designed to manage, protect, enhance, and conserve the forest resources, within an assigned geographical area of the Commonwealth. You will identify specific geographic areas in which to determine the appropriate treatment of forest resources through timber sales, conduct tours of timbers sales areas, and answer questions for prospective bidders; manage recreational activities on state forest land; provide expertise to private landowners and loggers with regard to tree planting, forest management, pest control, timber stand improvement, harvesting, and determining proper location of logging roads; participate in forest fire prevention and suppression; assist in forest pest pre-suppression, suppression and post-suppression activities; survey and map forest land; and participate in forest training seminars.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Conditions of Employment
You will be required to work outdoors in all types of weather; walk over rough and uneven terrain; participate in search and rescue operations; and help fight forest fires.
Necessary Special Requirement
You must have a valid driver's license.
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from an associate’s degree program in forest technology, forestry, forest management, urban forestry, forest science, or agroforestry recognized by the Society of American Foresters, and two years of technical forestry experience; OR graduation from a bachelor’s degree program in forest technology, forestry, forest management, urban forestry, forest science, or agroforestry recognized by the Society of American Foresters; OR graduation from a master’s degree program in forest technology, forestry, forest management, urban forestry, forest science, or agroforestry recognized by the Society of American Foresters.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission currently has 23 filled Forester positions located in the following counties: Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Huntingdon, Lancaster, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Mifflin, Schuylkill, Venango, Warren, Wayne and Westmoreland.
The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs currently does not have any filled positions; however, they anticipate filling positions within Lebanon County.
Lists created by these tests will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.
You will have a maximum of 3 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
This test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for this job title. If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on this test.
