NATURE OF WORK
You will work in a county Drug and Alcohol Program where you will provide support services to individuals in recovery from substance abuse disorders by helping them gain access to needed resources in the community, assisting them in overcoming barriers, and helping them bridge gaps between their needs and available resources. You will assist individuals to self-identify their personal goals for recovery, determine the steps to reach their recovery goals, and provide an environment of mutual respect, empowerment and opportunity to promote self-sufficiency. You will serve as an advocate and help link individuals to public services, educational opportunities, employment and vocational skills services. You will actively provide individuals in recovery with feedback to help them recognize their strengths and recovery options.

Some of the positions in this job title come under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. If you are a final candidate for one of these positions, you will have to provide reports on your background from such sources as the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. If your background is unacceptable, you will be disqualified for employment in such positions. You will receive information about these requirements and how to obtain the required reports at the time you are being considered for employment.
Necessary Special Requirement
Full certification as a drug and alcohol recovery support specialist by a statewide certification body which is a member of a national certification body or certification by another state government’s substance abuse certification board.

TESTING
You must submit a copy of your full certification as a drug and alcohol recovery support specialist by a statewide certification body which is a member of a national certification body or certification by another state government’s substance abuse certification board.
Your application and your certification will be evaluated to determine if you meet the Necessary Special Requirement. If you meet this requirement, you will receive a score.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application or result in disqualification.
If you were previously determined to be ineligible and now meet the job requirements, you may reapply during the life of this announcement by submitting a new application and certificate of completion of a drug and alcohol recovery support specialist training program approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
