NATURE OF WORK
You will perform professional supervisory and educational duties in a state correctional institution. You will have the overall responsibility for planning, coordinating, and directing educational and education-related programs including special education, vocational education, and continuing college education within the facility. This includes planning educational objectives, curricula, and programs for youth and adults. You also will assign, review, evaluate, and supervise the work of academic and vocational teachers, librarians, counselors and other educational support staff.

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
You must pass a background investigation. After you receive a conditional offer of employment you must undergo a medical examination.
If you are not currently an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, you must attend and complete a 3-week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, which is located in Lancaster County. This program includes familiarization with department policies and regulations and training in self-defense, security, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Minimum Requirements
Five years of professional educational experience, including three years as a classroom teacher or an education counselor in a public school, licensed private school, or an adult correctional education program approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, and a master’s degree in education, special education, educational psychology or educational administration.
Condition of Employment
If you are assigned to a Commonwealth Secondary Diploma Facility, you must hold a valid School Principal Certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your “Application.” A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
