NATURE OF WORK
You will perform public safety work and promote recreation in state parks and forests. You will answer questions concerning facilities, environmental features and history; and explain rules and regulations. You will check grounds, buildings, and waterways for vandalism, safety hazards, and cleanliness. In emergencies you may administer first aid or CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) to injured visitors. You may operate watercraft, ATVs, snowmobiles, etc. You will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and seven days a week.
All Park Ranger 1’s are hired as seasonal employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements. If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Necessary Special Requirements
1) Possession of a valid driver’s license.
2) Possession of a current American Red Cross Certificate in Multi-Media First Aid, or an American Red Cross Certificate in Standard First Aid, or a United States’ Bureau of Mines Certificate in Standard First Aid.
3) Possession of a certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Minimum Requirements
You must pass the test and meet all the Necessary Special Requirements.
NOTE: Do not submit certificates with your application. You must submit the First Aid and CPR certificates at the time of your employment interview.

Positions are located in the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at state parks and forests throughout the Commonwealth. All employees are hired on a seasonal basis. A “season” may extend from April to December, but some appointments will be for other periods of time – 3, 6, or 8 months.
Lists created by this test will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
If your name is on an eligible list for this job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
