NATURE OF WORK

You will plan, develop and implement Individual Education Programs, and adapt education programs in correctional facilities to fit the special needs of inmates based on learning ability. You will select, implement and oversee the instruction of students in reading, math, science, social studies, language, and life skills; identify student needs and assess progress as part of the individualized instructional process and develop motivational techniques to encourage students to reach academic goals; serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team for each student; and assist other education staff in providing services to mainstreamed exceptional students that will ensure compliance with state and federal regulations concerning special education.

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

You must pass a background investigation. After you receive a conditional offer of employment you must undergo a medical examination.

If you are not currently an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, you must attend and complete a 3-week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, which is located in Lancaster County.

Minimum Requirements

A professional certification by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in Special Education.

Clarification of Requirements

Professional certification is an active Level I or Level II Instructional Certificate.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application. A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
