NATURE OF WORK

 

This is professional psychological services work that involves selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting a wide range of psychological tests; conducting interviews and counseling sessions; and writing and implementing behavioral plans.  You will provide these services to students, patients, individuals or inmates in correctional facilities, the Hiram G. Andrews Center, facilities operated by the Department of Public Welfare for individuals with mental health illnesses or intellectual disabilities, or Local Government mental health/intellectual disability programs under the Department of Public Welfare.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for local government job titles.

If you are a final candidate for a position covered by the Child Protective Services Law, you will have to provide reports on your background, at your own expense, from such sources as the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.

 

If you are a final candidate for a position covered by the Older Adults Protective Services Act, you will have to obtain a report of criminal record information, at your own expense, from the Pennsylvania State Police, or a statement that the State Police Central Repository contains no information relating to you.  If you have not been a resident of Pennsylvania for two years prior to the date that you received notification that you are a final candidate, you are also required to furnish a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information, at your own expense, from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

 

For Positions in the Department of Corrections

You must pass a background investigation.  After you receive a conditional offer of employment you must undergo a medical examination. After being hired, you must attend and complete a three week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, which is located in Lancaster County.

 

For Positions in the Department of Public Welfare

After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must undergo a medical examination.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Psychological Services Specialist, Corrections – Two years as a Psychological Services Associate, Corrections; OR a master's degree in psychology or a closely-related field which includes 15 graduate level credits in psychology; and 2 years of experience in the field of psychology under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.

 

Psychological Services Associate, Corrections – A master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field, which includes 15 graduate level credits in psychology, counseling, educational counseling, rehabilitation, human development, learning, or motivation.

 

Psychological Services Associate; Psychological Services Associate, Mental Health; and Forensic Psychological Services Associate, Mental Health – A master's degree in psychology or a closely-related field which includes 15 credits in psychology.

 

Psychological Services Associate 1 (Local Government) – A master's degree in psychology or a closely-related field.

 

Psychological Services Associate 2 (Local Government) – One year of experience as a Psychological Services Associate 1; OR one year of professional experience in psychological services work; and a master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
