NATURE OF WORK

 

You will perform professional work of an administrative nature, i.e., planning, analyzing, developing, coordinating, and implementing local social services program administered by the Department of Public Welfare’s County Children, Youth, and Families, Mental Health, and Mental Retardation/Intellectual Disabilities offices.  This includes: reviewing, analyzing and evaluating program objectives, policies, procedures, regulations and ongoing operations of organizational segments of a major program office; preparing reports which evaluate program effectiveness; and recommending changes in operational methods, procedures and policy.  You will also provide consultative services to staff, providers and/or contractors concerning program planning, interpretation of overall objectives, and providing advice on problems related to the coordination, implementation and monitoring of public social services programs.  You may supervise a staff of professional, paraprofessional, and/or clerical workers.

Minimum Requirements

 

Education – A bachelor’s degree is required for all job titles.

 

Experience

Program Specialists 1 – Two years of professional level experience in the appropriate field.

 

Program Specialists 2 – Three years of professional level experience in the appropriate field; OR one year as a Program Specialist 1 in the appropriate field.

 

Program Directors – Five years of professional level experience in the appropriate field, including three years of administrative, supervisory or consultative work; OR one year as a Program Specialist 2 in the appropriate field.

 

“Professional level experience in the appropriate field” relates to Children, Youth and Families, Mental Health, or Mental Retardation/Intellectual Disabilities, depending upon the job titles for which you apply.

 

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.

 

These lists will replace any previous lists.

 

These tests and scoring procedures are different from previous tests for these job titles.  If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on this test.
