NATURE OF WORK
You will teach general academic subjects to inmates in a state correctional facility working within an educational setting for GED and diploma programs, literacy and basic education, or life skills and/or workforce entry skills. You will plan, organize and adapt curriculum materials to fit the needs and abilities of the inmates, and implement individualized instructional plans. You also will track and document student performance; measure educational gains; and maintain therapeutic care, custody and control of inmates within the institution. You may be scheduled to work full-time or part-time, weekdays or evenings.
Intermittent Adult Basic Education Teachers, Correction Education perform the same job duties as the Adult Basic Education Teacher, Correction Education.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
You must pass a background investigation. After you receive a conditional offer of employment you must undergo a medical examination.
After being hired, you must attend and complete a 3-week basic training program at the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, which is located in Lancaster County.
Minimum Requirements
For both job titles - a bachelor’s degree in Elementary or Secondary Education which includes successful completion of a teaching practicum approved by the degree-granting institution; OR a bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Education, Special Education, Math, English, or the general sciences and two years of professional classroom or formalized training, instruction, or teaching experience.

Adult Basic Education Teachers, Correction Education are hired as full-time and part-time positions. Currently, there are 118 filled positions. The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections typically hires 10 full-time and part-time employees annually. TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application. A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
