NATURE OF WORK
You will perform advanced professional mining engineering work in an environmental regulatory, miner safety, or mine reclamation program. You will evaluate plans and permit applications for mining proposals; review the design of projects to mitigate environmental hazards; investigate subsidence events or mining accidents; and develop Statewide policies, procedures, and reports. You will apply and interpret regulatory requirements, and serve as a construction engineer for complex mine reclamation projects. You may communicate with licensed professional engineers outside the agency, or coordinate engineering reviews with staff in other programs to identify and resolve engineering issues.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
For some jobs, offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.
Minimum Requirements
Two years as a Mining Engineering Specialist; OR three years of professional experience in mining engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering; OR four years of professional experience in mining engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; OR three years of professional mining engineering experience, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Graduate study in mining engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Please make sure you meet all requirements. You may substitute related graduate level education for the required experience. There is no substitution for the required education. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted. If you are not sure if you qualify, contact one of the Commission’s offices listed at the end of this announcement for guidance.
Conditions of Employment
Certain positions may require possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
Certain positions in this job will require possession of a valid driver’s license.

TESTING

You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
