NATURE OF WORK
You will plan, coordinate and present a variety of environmental programs for park visitors, non-profit organizations and the public; conduct recreational programs, field studies, guided walks, campfire sessions and other related activities for senior citizens, scouts, school groups and park visitors; conduct environmental studies; and prepare schedules and press releases on programs involving conservation, preservation of the environment, and historical surroundings.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Conditions of Employment
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will require you, at the time of hiring, to submit a request to the Pennsylvania State Police for a Pennsylvania Criminal History Record Check and to submit to the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare a request for a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Check at your own expense. You will also be required to agree to release these reports to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promptly after receiving them. If you provide these reports at the time of hiring, you will not be required to obtain new reports as long as the reports you have provided were issued within the preceding one-year period.
You must be willing to work evenings, weekends, any day of the year, and irregular work hours.
You will be required to attend a one day Outdoor Programming Services Meeting which may require an overnight stay on April 30 – May 2, 2013 and Certified Interpretive Guide training scheduled for May 13 – 17, 2013 requiring travel and 5 days/4 nights residence at the training site. If hired, you will be contacted regarding the specific location for the training.

Seventeen positions are located in the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources state parks throughout the Commonwealth. Approximately 7 appointments are anticipated for the 2013 season. The actual locations of the positions have not yet been determined. New employees are generally hired for 3 to 4 months during the summer season.
Additional opportunities may occur due to normal turnover from retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton.
