Pay Schedule

and Range

Construction Inspector Supervisor

Construction Inspector Manager

When completing your application, please make sure you apply for all job titles for which you want to be tested.  You will NOT be permitted to add job titles after you test.

VETERANS:  Pennsylvania law (51 Pa.C.S. §7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.  To learn more about employment preferences and opportunities for veterans, visit the Commission’s website www.scsc.state.pa.us; visit one of our offices; or call our veterans information line, (717) 787-6039.

In both job titles you will be responsible, through subordinate inspectors, for the inspection of quality of work and materials on state building projects such as hospitals, schools and office buildings, and to ensure contractors are in compliance with contract documents and building codes and standards.  You will also administer the construction portion of the contract and ensure that each project is completed on time.  Construction Inspector Supervisors supervise a group of subordinates who inspect the quality of work and materials on projects; ensure compliance with plans and specifications; ensure materials have been approved for use; resolve differences between inspectors and contractors; review and prepare reports, contractor payment estimates and correspondence; and conduct job conferences, serving as the departmental liaison to the contractors, architect, and engineers.  Construction Inspector Managers direct the inspection and construction administration of several projects through Construction Inspector Supervisors; review progress schedules and/or Critical Path Method schedules, cost breakdowns, change orders, and related reports; attend job conferences and inspections; and resolve the more complicated issues associated with projects.

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.  If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement for guidance.

You may be required to travel extensively and occasionally stay overnight.  Offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

You may be required to work overtime or an unusual schedule to meet project deadlines.  Overtime payments are made in accordance with the union contract or Commonwealth Personnel Rules.

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
