NATURE OF WORK

 

You will enforce compliance with the laws and regulations relating to commercial vehicle operation.  Work involves conducting safety reviews and audits, conducting investigations, patrolling highways and performing driver/vehicle safety inspections and carrier reviews.  You will examine documents such as bills-of-lading, charter orders, motor vehicle licensing, insurance, and registration, all of which may result in the issuance of citations to violators.  You will investigate consumer complaints involving motor carriers, bus companies, taxi cabs, limousines, and other passenger carriers regulated by the Public Utility Commission.  You may testify in civil and criminal court proceedings.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.  If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement for guidance.

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

 

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Necessary Special Requirement

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

 

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from a 4 year college or university with major coursework in police science or law enforcement; OR 4 years of professional police experience with exposure to motor vehicle inspection and maintenance or traffic patrol; OR 4 years of enforcement experience with a governmental regulatory agency’s laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to motor vehicles; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.
