NATURE OF WORK
You will collect, review, and analyze data in a computerized highway maintenance management and inventory control system, or a roadway management system. You will conduct field studies to assess pavement surfaces, compile inventory of highway features such as shoulders, grass areas, guide rails, right-of-way fences, joints, surface construction, drainage, etc., to determine maintenance needs and update a computerized tracking system to monitor roadway management or maintenance programs.
A Roadway Programs Technician 1 works with a higher level employee. Specific instructions are provided and work is frequently reviewed. A Roadway Programs Technician 2 performs advanced technical duties with more independence and may serve as a team leader.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.
You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Minimum Requirements
Roadway Programs Technician 1 – One year of experience as a Technical Assistant; OR one year of experience in analysis of data utilized in planning and scheduling of work, materials and equipment; OR an associate’s degree in the field of Business Administration, Computer Science, Highway Engineering Technology or other closely related program; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Roadway Programs Technician 2 – One year as a Roadway Programs Technician 1; OR one year of experience in analysis of data utilized in planning and scheduling of work, materials and equipment, and an associate’s degree in the field of Business Administration, Computer Science, Highway Engineering Technology or other closely related program; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

TESTING

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
This test and scoring procedure is different from previous tests for these job titles. If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on the test.
