NATURE OF WORK
You will design Commonwealth buildings such as offices, historical buildings and sites, highway maintenance sites, and correctional facilities; prepare drawings, cost estimates, specifications and other contract documents; monitor progress during construction; and resolve design and construction problems.
As an Architectural Designer 2, you will perform more complex duties and work with more independence.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

For some jobs, offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Necessary Special Requirement
Certain positions in both of these class titles may require licensure as a Registered Architect by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or a reciprocal jurisdiction.
Minimum Requirements
Architectural Designer 1 – Successful completion of the training program for an Architectural Designer Trainee; OR one year of professional architectural experience which involved designing components of commercial, institutional, or educational buildings or structures, and a bachelor’s degree in architecture or architectural engineering or a closely related field which included major course work in architectural design; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training in architectural design work.
Architectural Designer 2 – One year as an Architectural Designer 1; OR two years of professional architectural experience which involved designing components of commercial, institutional, or educational buildings or structures, and a bachelor’s degree in architecture or architectural engineering or a closely related field which included major course work in architectural design; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training in architectural design work.
Clarification of Requirements
You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

Architectural Designers are located in the Pennsylvania Departments of Conservation and Natural Resources, Corrections, Environmental Protection, General Services, Labor and Industry, Military and Veterans Affairs, Public Welfare, Transportation, and in the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application. You will receive additional credit if you possess licensure as a Registered Architect by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or a reciprocal jurisdiction.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
