NATURE OF WORK
You will be responsible for the identification and non-identification of individuals through fingerprint and palm print examination. You will be using the scientific methodology of analysis, comparison, evaluation, and verification of fingerprints and palm prints. You will operate automated systems to scan and align fingerprints, input search criteria, compare fingerprints, identify matches and register unidentified fingerprints. You will also maintain a manual fingerprint file, and classify and search current fingerprints to identify matches in the existing file.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements. If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement for guidance.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Conditions of Employment
You must be able to withstand prolonged and intensive examination of fingerprints using a computer terminal or magnifying glass. You will work a total of 37.5 hours per week in an environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Scheduled shifts and work assignments may vary.
Minimum Requirements
Six months of experience in the identification and non-identification of individuals through fingerprint and palm print examination, comparison, and verification; OR successful completion of the fingerprint identification course offered by the Pennsylvania State Police.

There are currently 10 filled positions in this job title. Pennsylvania State Police expect to fill 3 vacancies in the near future. All positions are located at the Pennsylvania State Police Headquarters in Harrisburg, Dauphin County.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton.
