NATURE OF WORK
Parole Managers 1 directs quality control processes and procedures, which include case and report analysis, and support programs in the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole. You will implement and administer policies and procedures supporting the supervision of offenders on probation and parole; administer statewide policies affecting agency programs such as community service, urinalysis, and firearm procedures; or assist in the administration of a larger program area. You will supervise technical and clerical staff or provide functional supervision, which involves guidance and instruction, to field staff including district directors and unit supervisors.
Parole Managers 2 directs the operations of a program in a regional office or the central office. You will direct supervisory, professional (usually Parole Managers 1) and clerical staff in the development of program policy and procedures, and in the administration of statewide programs of major significance to the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.

Minimum Requirements
Parole Manager 1 - Three years as a Parole Agent; OR three years of professional experience in parole, probation or corrections and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology or any of the behavioral sciences; OR five years as a Parole Staff Technician. Completed college coursework can be substituted for Parole Staff Technician experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
Parole Manager 2 – One year as a Parole Manager 1 or Parole Supervisor; OR four years of professional field experience in parole, probation or corrections, including one year in a supervisory capacity and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology or any of the behavioral sciences.

There are currently nine filled Parole Manager 1 and twelve filled Parole Manager 2 positions in the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole. The majority of Parole Manager 1 and 2 positions are located in Dauphin County. There is one Parole Manager 2 position in each of the following counties: Philadelphia, Allegheny and Blair. Typically the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole fills 2-3 positions each year.
Additional opportunities may occur due to normal turnover from retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
The written work simulation test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.
The test will consist of essay questions that describe situations encountered by Parole Managers. Responses to the examination will be rated on judgment and problem solving; knowledge of the field; written communication; maintaining working relationships; delegation, planning and organization; decision making; and supervision.
You will have a maximum of 4 hours to complete the test.
You must take the test no later than May 1, 2013.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
If this announcement does not produce enough names for a specific area, another test may be announced for that area only.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
