NATURE OF WORK

 

You will assist with the legal acquisition and centralized cataloging of artifact collections of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), at field museum and historic sites and at the State Museum of Pennsylvania.  You will process loans and loan agreements affecting the Commissionís collection, deaccession objects, and create and maintain hardcopy and computerized collection records.  Work may include assisting in the clarification of existing records and resolution of disputes over the assignment of objects to sections or locations, and providing professional advice on the registration and cataloging of collections at locations where no curator is assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

One year of museum registration or curatorial work in any one or more of the fields of History of Decorative Arts, History of Fine Arts, History, or History of Science, Industry, Archaeology, or Technology, and a bachelorís degree in American History or related field, including or supplemented by nine credits in Museum Studies, American Studies, or American History courses at the graduate level. 

 

A minimum of six month museum internship with emphasis on curatorial/registrar duties may be substituted for the graduate-level courses.
