NATURE OF WORK

 

Professional Conduct Investigator 1 - You will investigate complaints and conduct inspections regarding the conduct of business and health care practices regulated by the licensing boards and commissions of the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs in the Pennsylvania Department of State.  You will review complaints to determine issues for investigation, establish an investigative plan, conduct observation and surveillance, perform interviews, gather facts and evidence, and prepare reports of investigatory findings.  You may issue citations for violations, testify at hearings and judicial proceedings, and coordinate or participate in investigations with other law enforcement agencies.  Work also includes investigations related to regulatory oversight of elections, campaign financing, notaries, athletic events or other regulated activities or entities.

 

Professional Conduct Investigator 2 Ė You will perform the same professional investigative work as a Professional Conduct Investigator 1 with minimal supervision, handle more complex or sensitive investigations, and perform lead work activities.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

 

You must be willing to travel extensively.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

Professional Conduct Investigator 1 - Two years as a Regulatory Enforcement Inspector; OR five years of investigative experience; OR one year of investigative experience and a bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of investigative experience.

 

Professional Conduct Investigator 2 - Two years as a Professional Conduct Investigator 1; OR seven years of investigative experience; OR three years of investigative experience, and a bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes three years of investigative experience.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
