NATURE OF WORK

 

You will plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate an important component of a statewide water management program in the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.  Components include wastewater collection and treatment, drinking water treatment and distribution, water quality criteria, sewage planning, biosolids, water allocation, erosion and sediment control, waterborne vector management, watershed planning and assessment, water resources planning, and various education and outreach programs.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

Condition of Employment

Certain positions in this job will require possession of a valid Pennsylvania driverís license.

 

Minimum Requirements

Three years of professional environmental protection experience and a bachelorís degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes three years of professional environmental protection experience.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) currently has 64 filled Water Program Specialist positions.  The majority of positions are located in Dauphin County with a few positions in Cambria, Luzerne, and Schuylkill Counties.  DEP plans to fill approximately 7 vacancies over the next 12 months in Dauphin County.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
