NATURE OF WORK

 

You will explain and calculate retirement benefits for members, answer inquiries from members and annuitants, and provide technical support to school district personnel regarding benefit issues and retirement system policy and procedures.  Representatives work under the direction of Administrators who review work for technical accuracy and adherence to established guidelines and standards.  Administrators work under the direction of the Retirement Communications Manager who reviews work for effectiveness and results through conferences and written reports.

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

 

Retirement System Regional Representative, PSERS - A bachelor's degree; OR 3 years of experience in a public or private pension system, school business office, or personnel office in positions where the work involved responsible technical duties related to retirement benefits; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
 

Regional Office Administrator, PSERS - One year as a Retirement System Regional Representative; OR 1 year of professional experience related to retirement benefits and a bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes 1 year of professional experience related to retirement benefits.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

 

You will have a maximum of 3 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.

 

These lists will replace any previous lists.

 

This test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for these job titles.  If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on the test.
