VETERANS:  Pennsylvania law (51 Pa.C.S. ß7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.  To learn more about employment preferences and opportunities for veterans, visit the Commissionís website www.scsc.state.pa.us; visit one of our offices; or call our veterans information line, (717) 787-6039.

NOTE:  There is a continuing need for bilingual (English and Spanish) clerks in the Philadelphia area and in Berks, Chester, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Northumberland and York counties.  Individuals hired for these positions provide information and assistance to Spanish speaking clients.  If you have the required bilingual skills, you are encouraged to apply.

NATURE OF WORK

Clerks file and retrieve materials, gather and provide information, process forms and documents, and perform arithmetic computations and other general clerical duties.  Duties at the Clerk 2 level increase in scope and complexity and are performed with greater independence than at the Clerk 1 level.  Employees at the Clerk 2 level may also function as lead workers.

Library Helpers repair, sort and shelve books, file, pack and unpack boxes and perform routine clerical work in a library.  Some employees may be required to lift and carry moderately heavy boxes.

Library Assistants maintain files and records, sort and shelve books, check materials for accuracy and perform other moderately complex clerical work in a library.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You are subject to Pennsylvania residency requirements and must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Visit the Commissionís website, Job Seekers page, for PA Residency Information.

Minimum Requirements

You must pass the test.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

Positions are located in state offices and facilities throughout Pennsylvania.  The majority of jobs are in the metropolitan areas of Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.  Limited employment opportunities are anticipated at other locations.  Library Assistants are frequently hired on a part-time basis.

For some agencies, employment preference may be given to residents of the region and/or district in which the job is located.  Promotion preference may be given to employees who work in the region and/or district where job openings occur.

For the most recent information on job opportunities in state government, contact the human resources office of the state agency located either in your area or in
