NATURE OF WORK

 

Maintenance Repairmen work in the building, mechanical, and electrical trades and are responsible for the maintenance and repair of public buildings and the equipment in them.  Maintenance Repairmen 2 perform more difficult and complex duties.

 

Building Maintenance Foremen plan and supervise specific parts of a building maintenance/repair program or assist in planning and directing a comprehensive building maintenance/repair program.

 

Building Maintenance Supervisors plan and direct a complete building maintenance/repair program; develop schedules for preventive maintenance, repairs, and alterations; assign work to maintenance staff; and inspect work in progress and upon completion.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.

 

For some jobs, offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Necessary Special Requirement for Maintenance Repairman 1 and 2

Some positions may require possession of a Pennsylvania driver’s license.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Maintenance Repairman 1 – Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training

 

Maintenance Repairman 2 - Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; OR 4 years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training

 

Building Maintenance Foreman - Two years of experience at the journey level divided among a minimum two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades or landscaping; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from high school or vocational school; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training

 

Building Maintenance Supervisor - Four years of supervisory experience in a variety of building construction and maintenance trades, including experience in related mechanical trades; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a standard high school or vocational school; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.

 

These lists will replace any previous lists.

 

This test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for these job titles.  If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on the test.
