NATURE OF WORK
As a Dentist, you will perform professional dental work in the examination, diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients/residents in Department of Public Welfare hospitals/centers, or with inmates in Department of Corrections' state correctional institutions. Work may also include the coordination of off-site contractual dental services. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level dentist, medical, or administrative supervisor. As a Dentist Supervisor, you also will exercise supervision over a subordinate staff of dentist

Necessary Special Requirements for Both Job Titles
You must have a valid license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
Minimum Requirements
Dentist Supervisor – One year as a Dentist in a state facility; OR one year of experience in the practice of dentistry.
Dentist (33930) - You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.
Dentist Supervisor (33940) - You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Some of the positions in these job titles come under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. If you are a final candidate for one of these positions, you will have to provide reports on your background from such sources as the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. If you are a final candidate and not a Pennsylvania resident, you must also obtain a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. If your background is unacceptable, you will be disqualified for employment in such positions. You will receive information about these requirements and how to obtain the required reports at the time you are being considered for employment.
Some of the positions in these job titles come under the provisions of the Older Adults Protective Services Act. If you are a final candidate for one of these positions, you will have to obtain a report of criminal record information from the Pennsylvania State Police or a statement that the State Police Central Repository contains no information relating to you. If you are a final candidate and not currently a Pennsylvania resident, or if you are currently a Pennsylvania resident and a final candidate but have not been a resident for two years prior to the date that you received notification that you are a final candidate, you are also required to furnish a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. If your background is unacceptable, you will be disqualified for employment in such positions. You will receive information about this requirement and how to obtain the required reports at the time you are being considered for employment.
FOR ALL POSITIONS
After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must undergo a medical examination.
FOR DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS POSITIONS
You must pass a background investigation. After being hired, you must attend and complete a 3-week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, which is located in Lancaster County.

TESTING
Your application will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the Minimum and Necessary Special Requirements. If you meet these requirements you will receive a score.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or disqualification. You must list your license number and expiration date in the "Licenses or Certificates" section of your Application for Employment/Promotion.
If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
Lists created by these tests will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.
If you are found ineligible, you may reapply when you meet the Necessary Special Requirement and Minimum Experience and Training requirements. A new application is required for a retest.
