NATURE OF WORK

 

Plumber

You will install, repair and maintain plumbing, heating and steam operated equipment and systems.  You will be expected to work at the full journey level, which may include interpreting blueprints/instructions for small projects and ensuring these projects are completed according to specifications.

 

Plumber Foreman

You will supervise plumbers and steamfitters installing, repairing and maintaining plumbing, heating and steam operated equipment and systems.  You will also determine work methods and estimate time and material requirements.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

For some jobs, offers of employment will be made only if you are willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

 

Plumber

Four years of experience in the plumbing trade or completion of an approved apprenticeship; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Plumber Foreman

Two years of experience in the plumbing or steamfitting trade at the journey level; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

These positions are with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare at state mental health hospitals and centers.

 

Approximately 2 Plumber and 1 Plumber Foreman positions are filled annually.  Seasonal hires may be made for short periods.

 

Additional opportunities may occur due to normal turnover from retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

 

There are no positions in Harrisburg, Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
