NATURE OF WORK
You will be responsible for developing and adapting curriculum, course outlines, lesson plans, and instructional methodology in teaching vocational education courses in a specialized occupation area for inmates at a state correctional facility. Work involves separating known trade or vocational skills into teaching units to provide organized individual and group instruction to inmates. Duties include diagnosing and evaluating inmate potential, achievement, and progress by administering standardized and teacher constructed tests and grading inmate progress. Work involves responsibility to monitor inmate behavior and maintain an effective learning environment in the classroom and shop area, maintain security of instructional materials, and complete records, reports, and forms related to the operation of classes and the evaluation of inmate performance.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
You must pass a background investigation. After you receive a conditional offer of employment you must undergo a medical examination.
After being hired, you must attend and complete a 3 week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, which is located in Lancaster County.
Minimum Requirements
Education equivalent to high school graduation and 2 years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified trade;
OR
If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified trade, education equivalent to high school graduation and 3 years of wage earning experience in the specified trade.

TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results." A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
This test is different from previous tests for these job titles. If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on this test.
