NATURE OF WORK
Employees inspect milk producing and processing establishments in an assigned area to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and standards of sanitation and pasteurization systems. They observe the production and processing of milk and dairy products; instruct approved inspectors, milk haulers and other personnel in the procedures and techniques of maintaining sanitation standards; and inspect farms, milk receiving stations, milk processing and ice cream plants. They also evaluate applicants, administer examinations for approved inspector certificates and weighers and sampler licenses; and inspect farm and dairy plant records to ensure that all products have been tested for potential disease-producing organisms.

You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
On-the-job Requirements
You must be willing to travel extensively throughout an assigned geographical area visiting farms, dairies and other establishments. Some processing plants operate 24 hours a day and you may be required to visit the plant at night.
You must be willing and able to work in temperatures which are usually hot (during the pasteurization process) or cold (-20 degrees in ice cream storage freezers).
You must be willing and able to inspect the inside of equipment such as milk tanks, tank trucks and silos. You may also be required to respond to emergency situations involving the milk industry as needed.
Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a valid Class C Driver’s License as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Minimum Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Dairy Science, Public Health, or a closely related field and one year of experience in the inspection of dairy farms, milk processing plants or related food processing operations; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Clarification of Requirements
You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results." A new application and application supplement is required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
