NATURE OF WORK
You will collect and interpret various geologic/hydrogeologic data and technical materials regarding the protection of the environment, and public health and safety. You also will develop or conduct studies and investigations; review and evaluate permit applications, plans and reports; participate in the design of subsurface projects to remediate contaminated industrial sites, reclaim mine sites or construct flood protection structures; or provide geologic support and analyses for bridge and highway engineering.
Some employees may lead lower-level environmental specialists and trainees in on-site inspections and investigations and provide training on basic geologic principles and sample collection techniques. Work is usually reviewed by a professional geologist for technical adequacy and by a professional supervisor for completeness, overall quality and attainment of objectives.

You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Necessary Special Requirement
You must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Minimum Requirements
One year as a Geologic Trainee; OR 1 year of experience in professional geologic work, and a bachelor’s degree in geology or a closely related field including or supplemented by 30 credit hours in geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology or other appropriate geology courses. A graduate degree in geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience; OR possession of a license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

DEP: Allegheny, Cambria, Centre, Crawford, Dauphin, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Montgomery, Northampton, Schuylkill, and Washington
PennDOT: Allegheny, Clearfield, Dauphin, Fayette, and Indiana
Lists created by this test will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your “Notice of Examination Results.” A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
