NATURE OF WORK

 

Employees instruct persons who are blind or visually impaired, in their homes and community settings.  Instruction is provided in cooking, home management, sewing and needle-work, home repairs, communication skills (typing/basic computer usage), and daily life skills.  Employees interview and evaluate clients, develop training plans jointly with clients, and work with family members in implementing the adjustment plan.

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

 

You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.

 

All of the positions in this job title come under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.  If you are a final candidate for one of these positions, you will have to provide reports on your background from such sources as the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.  If your background is unacceptable, you will be disqualified for employment in such positions.  You will receive information about these requirements and how to obtain the required reports at the time you are being considered for employment.

 

Minimum Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Teaching of the Blind or Visually Impaired; OR 1 year of experience in rehabilitation teaching of the blind or visually impaired; and a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in early intervention, special education with an emphasis in visual handicaps, secondary or adult education, home economics or a related field.
