NATURE OF WORK
As a Civil Engineer Manager you will be responsible for the management and supervision of professional engineering activities associated with the design, engineering computation, construction, fabrication, rehabilitation, inspection or maintenance of highway bridges and related structures. As a Civil Engineer Consultant you will perform high order analytical, developmental, and evaluative professional engineering work of a non-supervisory nature in the areas of highway bridges and related structures.
In either position, you may coordinate and direct design activities; supervise the development of plans prepared by consultant engineers; direct the preparation of cost estimates, job and material specifications and detailed working drawings; monitor construction activities; resolve problems associated with proposed location and design changes; monitor and direct bridge inspection activities; perform or direct bridge engineering computation activities; evaluate the desirability of adopting new technology; or develop new engineering standards. You may also be involved in an ongoing statewide bridge inspection and maintenance program.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of these jobs. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for these job titles.
Condition of Employment
Certain positions will require a valid drier’s license.
Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a valid Professional Engineer License issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
NOTE: Candidates with an out-of-state Professional Engineer License will be required to produce a valid Professional Engineer License issued by Pennsylvania within their initial 6 month probationary period.
Minimum Requirement for All Job Titles
Four years of professional civil engineering experience which includes three years in bridge engineering.
Additional Requirement for Civil Engineer Manager (Bridges) only
The bridge engineering experience must have included one year of directing the work of civil engineers.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.
You will have a maximum of 4 1/2 hours to complete the test which will cover the following subject areas:

*Of the 80 questions in the test, 60 are worth 1 point each and 20 are worth 3 points each.
The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test also will be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
