NATURE OF WORK
Environmental Projects Construction Inspectors are responsible for the inspection of materials and workmanship on a wide range of construction such as park buildings, roads and bridges, dams, treatment plants, mine reclamation projects and flood control facilities located throughout the Commonwealth. They interpret contract requirements contained in specifications, engineering plans and drawings and apply standard inspection and testing techniques to assure that construction meets requirements.
Environmental Projects Construction Inspector Supervisors are responsible for the training and supervision of inspectors, develop work plans, assignments, and resolve non-engineering problems on work sites.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements. If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.
You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Minimum Requirements
Environmental Projects Construction Inspector – Two years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects such as dams, flood control projects, mine reclamation projects, treatment plants, hazardous waste projects, airports, highways, or utility installation; OR an Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Environmental Projects Construction Inspector Supervisor – Two years as an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector; OR two years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects such as dams, flood control projects, mine reclamation projects, treatment plants, hazardous waste projects, airports, highways or utility installations, AND an Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology, Survey Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; OR four years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects such as dams, flood control projects, mine reclamation projects, treatment plants, hazardous waste projects, airports, highways or utility installation; OR an equivalent combination or experience and training.

You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

There are 43 filled Environmental Projects Construction Inspectors in the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Department of Environmental Protection. Some positions are filled on a seasonal basis and work is performed during fair weather months, usually April to November, at construction sites statewide. There are 7 filled Environmental Project Construction Inspector Supervisor positions in the Department of Environmental Protection. Four Environmental Projects Construction Inspector vacancies are expected during the next year, 2 of which may be permanent, full-time positions.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission Office. You will have a maximum of 3 hours to complete the test.

The test will be held in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Civil Service Commission Offices, Monday through Friday.
The test will also be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.
If your name is on an eligible list for these jobs and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
