NATURE OF WORK

 

You will provide technical assistance and advice to state agencies and county organizations regarding planning, developing, reviewing, evaluating, and implementing radio and microwave telecommunications systems, equipment, facilities and services.  Duties include needs analysis, and the development of design criteria and specifications for the purchase or lease of radio telecommunications systems, equipment and services.  The work also involves contact with vendors of radio telecommunications equipment and services.  Radio Telecommunications Specialist 1 assignments are primarily operational, involving maintenance and upgrading of existing systems.  Radio Telecommunications Specialists 2 normally work in agency central offices.  Assignments involve planning, developing, and implementing new telecommunication systems.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

Minimum Requirements

 

Radio Telecommunications Specialist 1

Four years of experience in radio, microwave or related telecommunications which includes 1 year in system design or configuration and 3 years of general telecommunications experience involving the installation, repair or maintenance of large commercial and/or governmental systems, or systems engineering analysis with a public utility, governmental agency or private company.

 

Radio Telecommunications Specialist 2

One year of experience as a Radio Telecommunications Specialist 1; OR 5 years of experience in radio, microwave or related telecommunications which includes 2 years in system design or configuration and 3 years of general telecommunications experience involving the installation, repair or maintenance of large commercial and/or governmental systems, or systems engineering analysis with a public utility, governmental agency or private company.

 

Both Job Titles

Post-high school training in telecommunications technology, radio communications, or electronics with emphasis in radio or microwave telecommunications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of general telecommunications experience.

Filled Radio Telecommunications Specialist 1 positions are located in the Pennsylvania Department of Health in Dauphin County.  Radio Telecommunications Specialist 2 positions are located in the Pennsylvania Departments of Corrections in Cumberland County, and Military and Veterans Affairs in Lebanon County; Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency in Dauphin and Indiana Counties; and in the Pennsylvania Departments of Transportation, Conservation and Natural Resources, and the Pennsylvania State Police.

 

Most positions are in Dauphin County.

 

Lists created by these tests will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
