NATURE OF WORK
Radiation Health Physicists 1 perform professional work in monitoring and controlling radiological health hazards to ensure compliance with Federal and state laws and regulations. You will review applications for radioactive material licenses, accelerator licenses and/or radon testing/mitigation/laboratory certifications; plan and conduct inspections and surveys of radiation sources; and investigate hazardous conditions involving radiation producing equipment/materials. You will also collect radiological data, evaluate the results, and prepare technical reports.
Radiation Health Physicists 2 positions are characterized by a greater degree of responsibility, more complex assignments, and greater independence of action than Radiation Health Physicists 1.

You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.
Necessary Special Requirements
Certain positions in these classes may require possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and/or current certification in mammography issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Minimum Requirements
Radiation Health Physicist 1 - Two years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards, and a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in the physical, biological or radiological sciences or in engineering, with a minimum of 20 college credits in physical sciences, engineering or mathematics; OR six years of technical experience in providing protection to radiation workers, the general public and the environment from the effects of radiation, and possession of a certificate of registration issued by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Radiation Health Physicist 2 - One year as a Radiation Health Physicist 1; OR three years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards, and a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in the physical, biological or radiological sciences or in engineering, with a minimum of 20 college credits in physical sciences, engineering or mathematics; certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
For Both Job Titles: A master’s degree in health physics, radiation science, nuclear engineering or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards.
A doctoral degree in health physics or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of radiation hazards.
Clarification of Requirements

TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you took the test and now have additional required experience/training and want to test again, you may be retested after 2 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results." A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
If this announcement does not produce enough names for a specific area, another test may be announced for that area only.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
The test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for these job titles. If you have taken the test before, you may receive a different score on this test.
