NATURE OF WORK

 

You will direct an administrative phase of a retirement program in accordance with applicable laws and policies.  You will be responsible for the pension management systems which may involve processing benefit payments, collecting actuarial data, developing policies and procedures, maintaining records, and providing communication services to members, employers, annuitants, annuitant organizations, public pension systems, and organizations.  Your work will involve maintaining modern pension management techniques to provide efficient control of retirement monies and documents.  You will supervise technical and clerical staff and be involved in maintaining and processing records and accounts of retirement system members and annuitants.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements

Minimum Requirements

One year as a Retirement Benefits Specialist Supervisor, a SERS Retirement Counselor or a Retirement System Regional Representative, PSERS; OR 2 years as a Retirement Technician Supervisor or a Retirement Benefits Specialist; OR 4 years of experience managing a benefit program, providing benefit counseling services, independently interpreting and applying benefit provisions or auditing benefit accounts.

TESTING

 

The test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

 

You will have a maximum of 3 1/2 hours to complete the test.  The test will cover the following subject areas:

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
